What is the difference between to let, to lease and to rent? What is meant by useable space? How woul you translate: Ein repräsentatives Objekt an einer guten Adresse?

Target groups of the course are primarily native speakers of German or with a sound knowledge of German.

The course consists of 5 modules that build on each other.

The five course modules build on each other, but can also be completed in a different order. With the help of exercises and the use of videos and authentic teaching materials, the acquired knowledge is practised and trained. All exercises can be completed as often as desired.

The specialist terms presented can be practised and deepened at any time in special vocabulary training sessions or also via the vocabulary trainer.

At the end of each module there are two tests that test the acquired knowledge. If you achieve a sufficient level (at least 70% pass), you will receive a certificate.

Course content

This module aims to introduce you to some of the language traps in Real Estate English and the different types of property that make up the built environment. Knowing the correct terminology for the various property types is essential for communicating effectively with your client or other professionals.

The well-known phrase “location, location, location“ was actually coined by Lord Samuel, founder and chairman of Land Securities Investment Trust (as it was then called) in the mid-1960s, to describe the three prime (and some now say only) criteria for property selection. But how are locations classified in English? After a general introduction, the most important location qualities and classifications for office and retail locations are introduced. Successful completion of the module will help you to describe different locations in your local market effectively in English.

There are many types of properties, each with quite different features. In this module, however, we focus on describing office properties. The objective is to familiarise you with the most relevant terms for describing layouts and the special features of office buildings to enable you to confidently describe them using the correct terminology in a business context.

This module comprises an introduction to the most relevant market definitions alongside an introduction to the vocabulary needed to describe market trends. Market reports are key sources of information, but they are often written using words and phrases rarely seen or heard in other contexts. As such, they represent a challenge even for native speakers of English. In the module, you will practice reading and understanding market reports, enabling you to discuss the markets in which you operate more confidently in meetings and negotiations with international clients.

This module introduces the most relevant contracts, letting and leasing vocabulary based on authentic materials. This module introduces the most relevant contracts, letting and leasing vocabulary based on authentic materials. It will enable you to apply terms like rental contract, term or extension appropriately in negotiations and meetings conducted in English The key characteristics in landlord and tenant law will also be covered as well as reading and understanding contracts. This module focuses on legal terms in British English, with some American terminology also included.
